HCBL Opening Day Recap
Shelter Island 13, Sag Harbor 1 (7.5 Innings)
The Shelter Island Bucks spoiled the season opener for the defending HCBL champion Sag Harbor Whalers with a 13-1 win on Opening Day.
Second-year Buck Conor Kiely (Stonehill) had three RBI in the win for the Bucks. He was one of four Bucks with at least two RBI in the game as David Stirpe (Mount St. Mary’s), Luke Nomura (Fairfield), and Willson Dunn (Hope International) had two RBI each.
Patrick Murphy (Wesleyan), Ethan Price (Rowan), and Eric Prough (Ponoma-Pitzer) worked on a combined one-hitter for the Bucks. The Bucks carried a combined no-hit bid to the bottom of the seventh when Olivia Pichardo (Brown) singled for the Whalers to break up the no-hitter.
The Bucks scored four runs in the top of the eighth when darkness fell on Mashashimuet Park ending the game and giving the Bucks the win.
Westhampton 12, Southampton 2 (7 Innings)
The Westhampton Aviators won their season opener in front of the home crowd at Aviator Field with a 12-2 win over the Southampton Breakers.
Greg Marmo (Gonzaga) went 2-for-3 for the Aviators with three RBI and a pair of stolen bases. Waldier Perez (Cal St. Fullerton) was 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI, Perez was a triple shy of the first cycle in HCBL history.
Returning Aviator Sean Keys (Bucknell) had a two-RBI single that capped a six-run inning for the Aviators in the bottom of the third inning.
Michael DiForte (Saint Peters) earned the win for Westhampton pitching five innings allowing two runs on four hits.

South Shore 12, North Fork 2 (7 Innings)
The South Shore Clippers scored seven runs in the final two innings to earn a 12-2 mercy rule victory over the North Fork Ospreys on Opening Day.
Phil Krpata (St. Joseph’s-LI) had three RBI for the Clippers in the win with a stolen base. Tyree Jackson (Hofstra) had a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning for the Clippers first round tripper of the season.
Myles Scarry (SUNY Purchase) pitched four innings for South Shore allowing a run on three hits with six strikeouts and two walks to get the victory. Andrew Fingleton (Binghamton) pitched the final three innings to get the save.
