Delaney Named Sag Harbor Pitching Coach
The Whalers welcomed Rob Delaney to their coaching staff beginning with the 2014 summer. Delaney will handle the Sag Harbor pitchers, bringing with him eight seasons of professional baseball experience, including two stints in the big leagues.
Delaney pitched three seasons at St. John’s, compiling a 12-5 record and a 4.01 ERA, before signing with Minnesota in 2006 as an undrafted free agent. He shot up the Twins minor league system, and in 2010 made his major league debut. He later made appearances in the Tampa Bay Rays, Florida Marlins, Los Angeles Angels and Baltimore Orioles farm systems, as well as four appearances for the Rays’ big league club in 2011.
Delaney earned a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management from St. John’s in 2006. He has provided individual baseball instruction in his home state of New Jersey since 1999, and for Joe Wladyka Baseball, one of the nation’s top instructional camps, since 2006.
His addition continues a long line of former St. John’s players to coach in the HCBL, including current manager Randy Caden (Riverhead ’10-’14) and Danny Benedetti (Sag Harbor ’14), and former managers Brendan Monaghan (Sag Harbor ’13), Joe Burke (Shelter Island ’12) and James Lally (Westhampton ’12).
