Support Hamptons Collegiate Baseball

Host Family Housing

An integral part of fielding top-level collegiate baseball on the East End is the role played by the dozens of families who host players for the summer. In the league’s inaugural season in Sag Harbor and Southampton, we heard all kinds of success stories as community members welcomed these athletes into their homes and became part of their families. Many of them are still in touch today, a year removed from their stay.

Hosting a player enriches not only their lives but of everyone in the household. Players can oftentimes be found playing a game of catch with kids, whether they’re 4 or 14 years old. Their work ethic is a prime example for students with aspirations to compete at the college level. Several players also accepted part-time jobs at local businesses. They embraced their communities, and their communities embraced them as well.

Below are testimonials by some of those who have welcomed players into their homes in the past. Across the board, they were overwhelmingly positive experiences.
Millie Fellingham, Southampton
“It was probably the nicest things that ever happened to our family. I have grandsons, and they idolized [the players]. They really liked having them around. [The players] were all-around nice kids, very respectful. It was a great experience. We’re going to take two next year.”

“One of my grandsons was having a hard time with football during the summer and said he didn’t want to do football anymore. My grandson really looked up to [the players]. They talked to him and now my grandson has been a star football player all winter long. He’s playing in another league now and all he wants to be now is a professional player.”

Walter Tice, Sag Harbor
“For our family, it was a home run. Our guest player, Mark, was polite, responsible, family-oriented and funny. His pure love of the game and his dedication to his team and teammates impressed my entire family. Mark's family visited with us during the season and have corresponded with us since. We feel that the friendship made through this program has greatly benefited us and we would recommend this experience without reservation."

Shaun McGowin,  Sag Harbor
"We would do it again in a heartbeat. We had a great kid who would play catch with our son and work with him on his pitching technique. He would work with Kyle on his off-speed pitches and give him tips. Also, one of the pluses also was close to our son's age so he was somebody that Kyle could relate to."
